GUIDE

Is Ultherapy worth the money?

For the right face, yes. Ultherapy is one session, with most people back at work the same day in our experience, that lifts the brow, the skin under the chin and the neck, softens the lines of the chest and tightens loose skin on the abdomen, the arms, the knees and other body areas by heating the tissue below the skin with focused ultrasound while the surface is untouched. The lift builds over three to six months and, in our clinic's experience, holds for around a year. In our clinical judgment it is worth the money for someone in their late thirties to sixties with mild to moderate laxity (loose skin) and a body mass index of 30 or under. If your skin hangs in a fold at the jaw, that is more than Ultherapy lifts, and a full double chin is fat before it is skin; the clinician tells you so at your free consultation, before you spend anything.

What the studies measured

  • Brow: in a 2010 published trial, 30 of 35 patients (86%) had a clinically significant brow lift at 90 days after one session, by an average of 1.7 mm.
  • Under the chin and the neck: in the study behind the 2012 clearance, 51 of 70 patients reached the lift threshold, and reviewers who did not know which photograph was taken first saw improvement in 84% of those.
  • Lower face and under the chin: in a 2014 study of 93 patients, blinded reviewers saw improvement in 58%, patients themselves in 66%, and among patients with a body mass index above 30 more than half showed no change against 12% of those at 30 or under.
  • Chest: in a 2013 study of 24 women, the lines of the décolletage improved in 46% at 90 days and 62% at 180 days.
  • Across 42 studies, a 2025 pooled analysis found investigators rated 89% of patients improved and patients rated themselves improved in 84%, with the authors cautioning that the figures may overstate the effect.

These are modest, measured changes: a natural refresh rather than a surgical result, which is the honest frame for the price.

What you are paying for

One session of 60 to 90 minutes for the face and neck, or about 30 minutes for the brow or the chest alone, with the clinician watching the tissue layers live on the console so the energy goes to the depth chosen for each zone. Your photographs are compared at the three-month review, and in our experience the result holds for around a year, with maintenance considered after 12 to 18 months. Ultherapy is priced per session, per area and per course, confirmed in writing at your free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote and interest-free finance through Humm, subject to status. Consultations and follow-up reviews are free.

Who gets the most from it

Mild to moderate laxity, a body mass index of 30 or under, skin of any type (the manufacturer's label covers adults of every skin type), and a realistic expectation: a lifted brow, a cleaner line under the chin, a smoother neck, firmer skin on the abdomen, the arms or the knees. For real laxity, in our experience a tightening treatment first and EMface, which we also provide, to keep the lift often works best; for fine lines and a lighter lift we may suggest Sofwave, which we also provide. The clinician says plainly at the free consultation which fits your face, and the full Ultherapy guide compares them.

How we check it worked

A before photograph at the consultation, then photographs at three months, which is when the collagen the heat set going has built. Our patients review the clinic on review.clinic, where Ultherapy at our clinic holds 4.9 out of 5 from 49 reviews with 100% saying the treatment was worth it (November 2026).
