The vertical lines that deepen on the chest with sun and a night on your side, and the crepey skin between the collarbones and the bust, are a use Ultherapy is FDA-cleared in the US for. The 2014 clearance is to improve lines and wrinkles of the décolleté, and Merz UK names the décolletage with the face and neck. The clinician runs lines of focused ultrasound under the thin skin of the chest at the depths chosen from the image, and the heat builds new collagen over three to six months so the lines soften and the skin tightens. One session, with the price in writing at a free consultation at Ultherapy London, 130 Harley Street.
What it does on the chest
The vertical lines soften and the crepey texture tightens; the mottled colour of sun damage is pigment and vessels, which the ultrasound does not change, and the clinician names the light treatment, which we also provide, that does. The chest is often treated with the neck in one plan.
What the study measured
In the study behind the 2014 clearance, 36 of 54 evaluable patients showed improvement six months after one treatment. In a separate 2013 study of 24 women treated once on the décolletage, the lines improved by one to two points in 62% at six months, and masked assessment saw improvement in 71% at three months.
The session and the result
About 30 minutes for the chest, with a comfort plan agreed beforehand; redness for a few hours, swelling for a day or three, tenderness for up to two weeks, and sunscreen on the chest. The result builds over three to six months, when we photograph it, and holds for around a year in our experience.
