The brow was Ultherapy's first clearance. It is FDA-cleared in the US to lift the eyebrow, and a brow that has dropped is a common reason people ask for it, because the lift opens the eye area and takes the heavy look off the upper lids. A brow session takes about 30 minutes, one session, no needle. At Ultherapy London in the Harley Street medical district, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does
The clinician runs lines of focused ultrasound across the forehead and the brow at the depths the clinician chooses from the image, 1.5, 3.0 or 4.5 mm, making tiny points of heat in the deep skin and the layer beneath, guided by the live image. The heat sets off the body's healing response, which builds new collagen over three to six months, and the brow sits higher. In a 2010 published trial, 30 of 35 patients (86%) had a clinically significant brow lift at 90 days, by an average of 1.7 mm. A modest, natural lift that is visible as a more open eye, not a surgical brow lift.
Hooded eyes, and what it does not do
As the brow lifts, a mildly hooded upper lid opens with it, which is often what people asking about their eyes want. A heavy fold of skin resting on the lashes is more than Ultherapy lifts. The manufacturer's label says the energy must not be placed on the eyelids or inside the orbital rim, the bone around the eye, so the lids themselves, under-eye bags, the lines right under the eye and dark circles are outside what Ultherapy treats. The clinician says plainly at the free consultation what does, and the brow page and the eye area page go further.
The session and the result
About 30 minutes for the brow alone, or as part of a full face session of 60 to 90 minutes. A brief deep heat and a deep ache with each line, strongest over the brow bone, with the comfort plan agreed beforehand; redness for a few hours, swelling for a day or three. The lift builds over three to six months, when we photograph it, and holds for around a year in our experience, with a repeat considered after 12 to 18 months. The does it hurt page describes the session and the how long it lasts page the timeline.
